The combined impact of a tax-preferred designation by the state and a locally initiated strategic development plan has created the Keystone Industrial Port Complex (KIPC), a unique site that is attracting revolutionary technology jobs to Pennsylvania from around the world. The KIPC provides some immediate advantages - extensive infrastructure, onsite resources and geographic location - making it clear that the site could be competitive in the pursuit of new companies for the manufacturing sector. The KIPC Leadership created Strategic Economic Environmental Design Solutions ("SEEDS"), a development initiative characterized by cooperative effort of government, business, labor, and community. The team, which is comprised of leaders in the public and private sectors, shares a goal to maximize assets while minimizing liabilities, ultimately providing a return on investment to both private and public stakeholders throughout the state. Is the strategy working? The location of several new internationally-based manufacturing corporations onsite provide evidence that it is. To date, more than 800 acres of the site have been restored back to productive use, and new tenants of the KIPC have brought new jobs - and new green industries - to Pennsylvania.
