Daniel Walsh

Dr. Daniel Walsh is the founding Director of the New York City Mayor's Office of Environmental Remediation (OER). OER has launched the New York City Local Brownfield Cleanup Program, the nation's first municipal brownfield cleanup program. This is a progressive, fully sustainable cleanup program that will introduce the NYC Green Property Certification, which is designed to function for brownfield properties the way LEED certification functions for green buildings. OER has also launched its Brownfield Incentive Grant (BIG) Program that provides special support for redevelopments consistent with community vision and will soon introduce SPEED (Searchable Property Environmental E-Database) a web-based, GIS application that allows the public to find information about vacant properties in the City's commercial and manufacturing zones. Dr. Walsh formerly served as the Chief of the New York City Superfund and Brownfield Program for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and as the Chief of Operations for NYSDEC's Civilian Response to the World Trade Center disaster. He is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University and earned a doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in contaminant geochemistry.
